If climate change is a crime, who would be the criminal?
No commentsBANGKOK – In October, a team of Asian environmental lawyers staged a mock trial in Thailand where they charged eight of the world’s wealthiest countries with the crime of causing climate change.
One study says the richest seven percent of the world’s population may be responsible for generating as much as 50 percent of the world’s yearly greenhouse gas emissions, which are the main cause of global warming.
Meanwhile, millions of the world’s poorest people, many of whom live in Asia, have lost their homes, lives, and livelihoods to unprecedented flooding, typhoons, and droughts—just some of the predicted effects of global warming.
