How much energy does it actually take to power our everyday appliances?  In some cases, it takes 30 minutes of heart-thumping exercise.

In this video, Katrine Vejby, a Danish journalist and advocate for a carbon-free Copenhagen, talks about a new technology that turns pedal power into electricity. The energy-generating bike was one of many innovative climate-friendly technologies on display at various exhibits throughout Copenhagen during the UN Climate Change Conference this past week.

Surprisingly, there seemed to be no lack of people willing to bike for a smoothie.  Perhaps if people had to break a sweat every time they used electricity, the world would use it far more efficiently.
