World leaders say will stand by Bangladesh

COPENHAGEN–World leaders today renewed their assurances to stand by Bangladesh in its fight to protect its people from the wrath of climate calamities.

The renewed assurances came as they attended a breakfast meeting along with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Bella Center of the Danish capital, where the UN climate change summit is taking place.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the new chairman of the summit, hosted the breakfast meeting.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,  Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed also attended.

During the breakfast meeting, Sheikh Hasina thanked the UN secretary general for arranging the climate conference at a time when humankind is facing serious threats from global warming.

The Prime Minister apprised the leaders of her government’s several steps to face the challenges of climate change despite resource constraints.

She renewed her call to the international community to stand by Bangladesh with financial assistance and cooperation to enable the nation to tackle climate risks.
