Energy, Impacts
Greenpeace, an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to the issues of climate change, has called on countries around the world to stop using coal as a means of energy and instead look for environmentally-friendly alternatives. The call was made by Greenpeace campaigner Iris Cheng as a group of journalists visited an open-cast coal mine and coal-fired power plant in Konin, central Poland. The non-profit organisation has launched an international “Quit Coal” campaign alongside the open-pit coal mine. The journalists are attending the UN Climate Change Conference in nearby Poznan. Patrick Dambula from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation spoke to Iris Cheng at Greenpeace’s Climate Rescue Station next to the coal mine in Konin about the current protest site and her thoughts on the impact of coal power on the environment.
