COPENHAGEN–Developing nations and China attacked Wednesday a Danish proposal leaked to a UK newspaper during UN climate talks here in the Denmark. The Guardian newspaper story said the Danish prime minister’s proposal put responsibility for cutting carbon pollution equally on both developing and developed countries, an idea firmly opposed by delegates from the world’s poorer countries.

Spokespersons for the G77 and China block blasted the Danish government.
“It is a rejection of faith in (the UN climate convention), the only organization authorized to make climate change negotiations,” said one.

The UN climate chief played down the importance of the Danish document. “The Danish government has circulated many documents,” said Yvo de Boer. “All the documents are now off the table and are not part of the discussion.”

Still, heat and anger from the developing world has not subsided.
