Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu, the head of Vietnamese delegation at the Bangkok Climate Change Talks held from September 28 to October 9, said the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 15th Conference of the Parties (UNFCCC COP15) might not have such a good result. “A COP15+ might be opened”. International and domestic non-governmental organizations agree with his comments.

Economic crisis reduces emissions — EIA

The 18-month economic crisis has given the world a unique opportunity to limit climate change, said the International Energy Agency in a press conference today in Bangkok, Thailand. The IEA said that investors have delayed investments in polluting technologies because of the global slowdown. CO2 emissions will drop 3% in 2009 and 5% by 2020 in comparison with estimates made a year ago by the IEA. At the same time, by 2020 the global temperature could increase around 2C – the maximum that experts believe the planet can heat without catastrophic climate change.
