Enviroment ministers meeting in Poland today will have a new opportunity to inject oxygen into the UN climate change talks during a high-level round table. UN officials also announced that there might be three more negotiation meetings next year in the lead up to December’s Copenhagen summit, where talks will try to nail down the successor deal to the Kyoto Protocol.

Climate change effects in Latin America will be diverse, but for Colombia, at least, they will mean an increase in diseases like dengue fever and malaria, the World Bank said. At the same time, the region is in a position to lead efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation. And the region has huge potential in hydropower development and transforming urban transportation, as in Colombia, the Bank said.
